The native Thai phyto-estrogenic herb Pueraria mirifica (Kwao Krua Kao) has gained meteoric prominence worldwide over the past decades. In Thailand, the plant is known as “Kwao Krua” and has a 100+ year history of use in Thai folk medicine, (TTM). Although the name “Kwao Krua” had been applied to several species of plants having tuberous roots, it was definitively identified as Pueraria mirifica in 1952. An unusual estrogenic phenol, Miroestrol, was isolated eight years later from this plant. So although the above claim as to the efficacy of the phyto-chemical compounds that make Pueraria mirifica so special and different from other phytoestrogen plants [Miroestrol and Deoxymiroestrol], there is no further factual scientific documentation available on these two phyto-chemicals that are alleged to posses highest estrogenic activity among the known phyto-estrogens, due to structural similarity to estriol of the main estrogen in the human body.  

Pueraria mirifica also contains other chemical components that belong to Isoflavones, e.g. Genistein, Daidzein, Daidzin, and Coumestrol that are usually found in soybeans.

The results from researchers show that White Kwao Kreu Kao root promotes estrogenic and mammogenic (mammogenesis) effects to various tissues and organs such as uterus, ovary and skin and breast. Extensive clinical research indicates these chemicals to be beneficial in preventing breast cancer, prostate hyperplasia, colon cancer, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease via the potent reduction of blood cholesterol and anti-menopausal syndrome.

[A series of studies involving breast cell lines and the activity of Pueraria mirifica in vitro have been performed by the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Phramongkutklao College of Medicine, Bangkok, Thailand. These studies have shown that Pueraria mirifica root extract (Smith Naturals Co Ltd., Bangkok) has potent anti-estrogenic properties against aggressive cell cancer lines in vitro, especially the proliferative estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer lines (T47-D, MCF-7, and ZR-75-1) obtained from the MD Anderson Cancer Institute (Texas) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI) at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). Pueraria mirifica promotes fibroblasts in normal breast cells and inhibits estrogen-dependent breast cancer cells. According to the study conducted at the School of Medicine, Saint Mariane University, Tokyo, Japan by Kuramoshi, T. and Smitasiri, Y. about the preliminary study of Pueraria mirifica in Japanese females, 50 healthy menstruating volunteer females, ages 20 to 49, were given between 100 to 600 mg orally of Pueraria mirifica root powder daily as capsules for 7 days, two weeks after menstruation. No reports of abnormally heavy, severe, or missed menstruation were recorded.]

Nearly all of the commercial Pueraria mirifica products now available are extracted from the raw root tubers from north Thailand.  Siam Natural™ Products has been selling the pure raw sun-dried powder on the internet since 2003. In 2011 we made our first encapsulations in 400mg V-caps with a combination of 300mg of the premium grade raw root powder with 100mg of powdered extract which has been widely received by the international community. Over the past 18 years Thai scientists, botanists, and academics have been doing extensive research and development with the Kwao Krua Kao native herbal botanical. This resulted most recently with the first organically cultivated ‘super natural’ specimens of Pueraria mirifica.

 A group of Thai growers found they could simulate the rainforest conditions and add organic fertilizers and timed water sprayers to produce a new superior grade of Pueraria mirifica, even more potent and 100% natural compared to the solvent based extracts that are now widely marketed by multinational companies worldwide.

The method of measuring the phyto-chemical components potency is via the scientific method of HPLC (High performance liquid chromatography.) The image below reflects the latest organic strain of the Pueraria mirifica root chemical components. Not surprisingly, it is significantly more potent than the methyl alcohol solvent extracts and remains truly 100% ‘natural’. The content of Puerarin is 112.982 mg per 100 grams compared to 90 mg per 100 grams of pure methyl alcohol solvent (methanol) extract. We maintain that the ‘pure natural’ raw compound is always better for your health than any chemical processing. Two-hundred ninety-five kilos of super high quality raw herbal powder were produced in a one acre controlled environment. Thai growers are planning to expand this organic cultivation because the raw herb from the rainforest of north Thailand is being quickly depleted by commercial exploitation.
